Exchange rate

There have been two large depreciations in recent years, following the 2008 GFC and the 2016 referendum on EU membership. The chart below plots the sterling/dollar exchange rate, defined as pounds bought per dollar, so that a rise in the chart means a depreciation of sterling (i.e. one dollar buys you more pounds).
